Back on the walker this morning despite some bad pain. I managed to stand and take a couple more steps than previous days, but the going is so slow. This pain is keeping me from making more rapid progress. Trying to be okay with that.
BUT MANY DAYS I'M JUST NOT!
The 5 Stages of Grief - Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
- Denial
- Anger
- Bargaining
- Depression
- Acceptance
I am solidly stuck between #4 and #5. I skipped directly to #4 back in May. Most days i'm generally happy, but then there are the occasional meltdown days. Thankfully I can pull myself out of it quickly.
LEAN INTO THE FEELING AND TRUST THE PROCESS.
A drawing of a telephone pole with a sign that says Tarantula Season, at the bottom of the pole there is a picture of a coyote standing on a rock with a speech bubble that says "YIP YIP".
It's tarantula season! Someone has put signs up along the roads. The male tarantulas are on the move seeking a mate. We've seen several climbing the house and stucco walls.
When I first moved here I thought they would freak me out. I'm not a fan of spiders. But now I think they are rad. They are on a mission and all business.

LEAF PEEPING - Day 5
Left side:
There is a photo of a hillside with a cascade of Aspen trees in various shades of fall yellows. The rest of the hillside is covered in green pine/fir/or spruce trees. The sky above is mostly cloudy.
Below the photo is a line drawing of a swan floating in water.
Right side - 2 boxes with the following text:
I got out of the house with KP to do some leaf peeping up in Taos Ski Valley. There were rivers of cascading yellow aspens and brilliant red sumac along the road and hillsides.
After we went into town to get some Chinese food and some CBD gummies. I need sleep!
Later in the even we tried to watch House of Guinness - awful acting. Switched over to Eugene Levy's The Reluctant Traveler. Much better. Took a CBD gummy before bed, so much less pain, so much better sleep. Another tool for my self care arsenal when I really need it.
I am enjoying the multiplying "frogs" at the Portland and Chicago protests i.e. the "Toadal war zones". Go Ribbetstance!
8 STEPS
A little farther. The walker is a pita cause it doesn't quite fit right. But I'm working with it anyway. Legs are so stiff. Been trying to stretch more. Slow slow slow progress.

Day 6. Another zero 0 day
"Think about how many people with chronic illness or disability live in this space: not 'cured', not 'recovered', but sustaining, creating, resisting in ways that the health system can't measure or appreciate. Deleuze credits this to the tiny reserves of vitality that allow someone to write, paint, organize, or simply persist through pain. It's not health as a destination, but as a stubborn practice of becoming."

I think it's going to be two days walking, one day "off" for a while. "off"= no walking but still stretching and doing leg exercises. It is what it is until I can get into PT.
I finished Chris LaTray's book Becoming Little Shell It was so engaging, a perfect meld of memoir and history. Highly recommend if you would like to learn more about the history of indigenous folk in Montana.
A picture of a monarch flying across the page with text: monarchs are passing through.
K made the first fall fire in the wood stove. It was cold and rainy most fo the day.
The bottom of the page is a line drawing of KP sitting on the floor in front of the wood stove with a fire roaring in the fire box.
