Nix/86 - Days 1 - 3 - Graphic Novel/Zine
Nix/86 is an autobiographical novel/zine/comic that I am working on during the last 86 days of 2025 about struggles to get more mobile.
The pages are drawn in ballpoint pen and colored with Procreate after scanning.

The last time I walked any significant distance was 14 May 2025. Most days I spend in a wheelchair so I can have some semblance of mobility. Most days my wrists hurt, my knees hurt, my arms are sore, and I generally feel like shit.
Today there are 86 days left in the year, so it seems like the perfect day to '86' my lack of mobility...
Day 1
... and start an art project about it.
I woke up super stiff and sore. I knew right away it wasn't going to be a big walk for my first day. ' 4 whole steps, better than none!"
I have simple goals
1) Walk to chair in living room
2) Walk to shower in casita
3) Walk to car
4) Walk to studio
AND IF I GRADUATE, THE SAME LIST WITH A CANE...
But I'm getting ahead of myself. This is a one day at a time kind of affair.

There is the upper half of a tiny cat cartoon in the lower right hand corner with a speech bubble that says "meow".

In other news, we found out a recently trapped PACK RAT had chewed through the outdoor ethernet cable. The lil bastard had been making nests in my truck engine. Don't know the extent of that damage yet...
Underneath the text is a cartoon drawing of a pack rat.

There is the outline of a left foot drawn across the page. There are two red colored zones of pain in the ball and heel of the foot. There is the following text inside the foot:
Hard to trace toes with hand that is gimpy.
My left foot is giving me grief today - dose day. Woke up super stiff again. But got on the walker anyway!
My partner follows me with my chair so I can sit when I'm done.
ONLY 4 STEPS again...
The standing walker allows me to rest on my forearms rather than my wrists.
But the bigger problem is my legs are weak and my knees don't straighten out fully. Need to get back to PT.
MOTION IS LOTION.
Just to the right of mid-foot there is an outline of a mountainous skyline with a rising full moon. Full Harvest Supermoon rises over Pueblo Peak.

There is an outline of a left hand with two red spirals - one on the thumb, and one on the pinky that takes up the majority of the page.

SO FAR THIS IS A 0 DAY
It's Wednesday, day after dose day. I always feel like poop, and today is no different. Was in a lot of pain for most of night. Bad sleep. I didn't use the walker today - back at it tomorrow hopefully.
I've been hitting the self care soothers - reading, tea, heating pad, electric blanket, and epsom salt foot bath. My poor dry feet needed attention badly. It's hard enough just getting into/out of bed each day never mind tryinmg to do the rest of the basics.
BUT I PERSIST
KP brought me 2 cookies from CIDS. There is a drawing of a lemon chewy cookie and a pistachio/jam shortbread cookie.
There is a cartoon of a jellyfish with a speech bubble that says "just float"
