Week 04-26 - Curiosities

Cooking sunset views - lavender "hour"

Greetings from the Mesa

It's been a busy week. I have finally released my first ebook - The Almanac of Wonder and Wander Vol. 1 2021 - out into the world (see below for details). I'm still editing a print version. I've been able to get into a good working rhythm so far this year, getting up in the morning and working til mid-afternoon. The drawing challenge for the month is still going strong. I've been cooking and baking again which is exciting. Feeling so much better lately. Otherwise it's been a quiet, and warm "winter". How's your year going so far? Are you on track, or have you already fallen off the rails?

Curiosities of the Week

  1. The Strange Career of Joan Didion, Cop Hater (Dispatches Magazine). "primed as a child not just to obey the police but to consider them her “only friends”—came to distrust cops and bristle at their twisting of the truth."
  2. I have a fairly large music collection that has been in disarray on a backup disk. I'm testing out Strawberry Music Player as an alternative to the music app on mac. So far so good.
  3. Currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo after hearing it mentioned on many people's favorite books list. It is a brick of a book at over 1100 pages, but i'm flying through it. It is so engaging and beautifully written. I'm alternating between the physical book and an ebook cause it's so dang big!
  4. The ArtScience museum in Singapore looks amazing. I follow a few Singapore based artists on Youtube and they make me want to visit there so badly!
  5. After an Earthquake, Preserving a Slow Craft in a Fast World (NYT gift link). "In Wajima, Japan, where hundreds of homes and studios were destroyed, master-class artisans are struggling to keep lacquer alive and nurture the next generation of creators." Fascinating.

Consuming

Currently Reading: Kabu-Kabu by Okorafor, The Count of Monte Cristo by Dumas, and My Favorite Thing is Monsters Vol. 2 by Ferris.

TV/Movies: Depeche Mode's Memento Mori - give me all the old rockers still wearing black eyeliner please! Also trying to finish S1 of Fallout.

Music: Epic cover of Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club by GWAR. After watching Memento Mori i'm also obsessed with DM's Wrong, the official video is creepy AF.

What I'm Working On (subscribers only content)

  1. The Almanac of Wonder and Wander Vol. 1 - 2021 (Book) I'm excited to share my first book offering which I wrote between April and the end of 2021. The book is ~116 pages long and available as an ebook (EPUB) only at this time. It is FREE for download. If you download and enjoy the book please consider purchasing a copy for $5.
