Week 09-26 – Curiosities

Sunset winter skies over the plateau
Those sunset winter skies are something else!

Greetings from the Mesa

And just like that false spring has arrived and it’s back to afternoons outside with the dog playing frisbee. The fresh air feels lovely. I’ve fallen a bit behind in my work schedule – i’m living patterns – work really hard for a month or two and then rest for a week or more. Things needing to percolate or something. I’m enjoying playing with my fountain pens again. The writing is so luxuriously smooth and pleasant. After so many months of ballpoint focus it’s an absolute delight to work without friction. I was hoping to get back into a more writing heavy routine lately, but still haven’t found my groove. “Still haven’t found my groove” seems to be the working theme for the year so far. There is so much going on all over that it’s hard to stay focused. Is anyone else finding this to be the case?

Curiosities of the Week

  1. Austin Kleon’s typewriter interviews with creative folks are a lot of fun, and interesting. Enjoyed this one with graphic novelist Tom Hart very much.

  2. Social Media for Illustrators (The Truth) “Seriously, go outside and touch grass.” A couple weeks ago I had it and deleted all the social media apps off my phone. I can still check things on my desktop computer, and I do, but only about once a day. It’s so much better!

  3. I’m putting this cookbook on my to buy list – The Hoosier Mama Book of Breakfast Bakes. WTTW published one of the recipes for Gingerbread Muffins that I am going to try before buy! Stay tuned for results…

  4. This is a bit of an old article, but a decade plus later it still resonates especially with the rise of AI slop. Stop Writing Dystopian Sci-Fi – It’s Making Us All Fear Technology.

  5. In a world full of agreeable gray be an Allie Sullberg! Wonderful colorful illustrations. She also writes on Substack: The Museum of Small and Important Things
