Week 11-26 – Curiosities

Sunrise over the Sangres

Greetings from the Mesa

We tried to watch the total lunar eclipse but it was cloudy and we could only see the darkness rise and fade as the eclipse happened. Since it was so early in the morning we stayed up to watch the sunrise over the mountains which delivered some spectacular colors. Spring is springing. This week the Say’s Phoebes have arrived, and the local resident prairie dog has emerged. It’s my birfday week so we are making baked goods, planning some adventures, and enjoying daytime temperatures in the 70s (WTH!). KP found a liquidation sale at a local pottery studio and scored some deals on some basic equipment for the art shed. Since the weather is dry i’m going to try to get out to my studio this week and start organizing. Another big project this week is fixing the solar fans in the greenhouse – the wiring keeps breaking in the wind so I’m going to work up a new system that is grid tied and more robust. It’s been in the high 80s-90s in there which is way too warm. Garden starts are already coming up and our indoor Yuzu tree is blooming – KP has been hand pollinating it so maybe we’ll get some fruit this summer! Busy season is ramping up rapidly. Let’s go!

Curiosities

  1. On Monday night we watched an involved rescue operation in the Gorge of three teenagers who decided it was a good idea to hike down (no trail) to the bottom (about 600ft). It took a blackhawk helicopter from Kirkland to rescue them including one who was injured. We followed the arrival of the first medivac/search helicopter via Flightradar24. At first we thought it was a group of tourists, who do stupid shit in the gorge at least once a year, but it turns out they were locals.

  2. This administration makes me sick.

  3. I love a proper examination of waterproof inks. My personal go-to is Sketch Ink by Rohrer and Klingner. Their Lotte and Lilly colors are my favorites. They are well behaved and I can throw a ton of watercolor at them and they do not budge.

  4. Age-verification systems require collecting sensitive data to support the biometric information. In no time, the internet will become a fully surveilled digital panopticon.” Google is also aiming to lock-down their Android ecosystem. “With developer verification, Google’s Apple envy threatens to dismantle Android’s open legacy.” Another day another enshittification.

  5. If you need more good stuff to read, here’s a list of 3,000 small press magazines, etc.

Consuming

Currently Reading: About 2/3rds through Lonesome Dove – this is not my usual reading jam but I’m enjoying it, mostly because the characters are so well done… still reading I Saw the Sky Catch Fire and My Favorite Thing is Monsters II as well.

TV/Movies: We ended up finishing Bridgerton despite it being a total bore. Watching Dark Winds S4, Paradise S1, and Seven Dials.

Music: 10 Essential Tracks Engineered by Bob Power
