We are all boostered
staying awake for eclipse
“There is nothing new under the sun, but there are new suns.” Octavia E. Butler
We could see it coming and made arrangements to beat the rust. The rush hour is at 26% capacity and holding mass skepticism. The line was about 20 years my senior and even less enthusiastic. Just biding time by sleeping in my nest. The next one might be blown up our noses. Wrapped up tight against the cold trying to get things in motion buried 12 inches deep. The shoulder is stiff and forgetful. We acknowledge and we stutter and we gaffe. No laughter at indiscretions, only middle fingers, and burning resentment. He faithfully flies over and is rapt with delight at the snow clinging to the lifelines of light. Over yonder a landslide scar speaks of long gone atrocities that spill over into tomorrow. I ask, are you allright? Waiting patiently in the car for the allotted 15 minutes before a silent ding says you may go.
