Thinking about: Why You Should Start Binge Reading Right Now (NYT) I’m pretty sure a few posts ago I wrote about what reading a book a week has done for me in terms of my imagination and overall brain activation. Reading is so much more satisfying because it is not a simple consumptive form of entertainment. Anyway, don’t just take my word for it… Get your summertime reading list started right now!

Creativity: Japan’s Fascinating Blackboard Art (Design You Trust) The dimensionality, humor, and color of these bring me so much joy!
Thinking about: Bored and lonely? Blame your phone. (Vox)
Whereas 19th-century Americans perceived limits on how many people they could know, how much they should self-promote, how much excitement they should expect, 21st-century Americans are coming to expect that endless affirmation, unfettered anger, infinite cognitive power, unending entertainment, and constant companionship are our due as humans. Our technology is giving us these hopes, although they’re not always realized.Susan J. Matt
Thinking about: The Deepest Hole We Have Ever Dug (BBC) Working on one of these projects would be a dream!
TV: OA Season 2. In the end – hated it. Hokey “junk food” t.v. that’ll leave you with indigestion. It’s like an influencer IG stream, you move to the next episode like a bad case of ‘the scrolls’ hoping to find something valuable but get assaulted with pretty-ness and weird-ness with no substance. I’ll pass on future seasons.

Thinking about: Decade in the Red (NYTimes). If there is any truth to this, no wonder the Dump doesn’t want his taxes released. Queue the tweetlers about the phony NYT, and whatever other BS he concocts to distract and deflect.

Day 5 of a 12 week fitness challenge and my whole body is sore. I’m on my sixth week of intensive weight training, and already feel so much stronger. Wish me luck with the rest of this challenge. Hope I survive! 🙂

Friends: Vegan Caribbean cook-off night. Toasted coconut tofu and tempeh skewers with a citrus marinade, along with a kale/cabbage/onion/cilantro/mango black bean slaw with a citrus glaze. Everything paired so perfectly. We also whipped up some vegan chocolate coconut truffles which were so simple and yummy!

The weather has been simply amazing. Amazingly blazingly hot. Late friday afternoon we took off to hammock hang out at Rooster Rock, a beach on the Columbia River, for a few hours. It was my first time there, and I loved it!

Sweated my arse off in the garden planting perennials and herbs and ground cover to brighten up the space. Got some hummingbird friendly plants which should please the locals! Also started digging out the side yard path. Will need another haul of gravel soon. Lots of work still to do but it’s coming along a couple hours at a time.

Movie: Long Day’s Journey Into Night @ Cinema 21. Dreamy and beautiful. It’s very slow and convoluted, but I left the theatre fully and thoroughly immersed. Love it when you have to dig your way back out of the film dream and into reality.

415 🙁 Congrats humankind! One step closer to who knows what?
This is the first time in human history our planet’s atmosphere has had more than 415ppm CO2.Eric Holthaus (@ericholthaus – twitter)
Not just in recorded history, not just since the invention of agriculture 10,000 years ago. Since before modern humans existed millions of years ago.
We don’t know a planet like this.
And on a completely different note, I’ve landed into my last 10 days of social media break. Where did the time go? So much accomplished, so much still to do! My strategy going forward is to limit time on IG to <10 minutes a day. That seems like just the right amount right now. Intentional attention.
I’m really digging the slow format of the website posting though, so I’m going to continue it, but probably on a weekly schedule.
