Day 71-80

24 April 2019 – 71

Thinking about: Why it’s important to ‘pause’, rest and regenerate if you want to be creative (Creative Boom)

I have been pausing for several months now. Pausing as Robert Poynton, in the article above points out, is and should most definitely be a ‘thing’. Lately I have been shifting back into motion. Motion of the mind which has been resting, regenerating, reviving, simply… pausing. At first it felt wrong, to pause the mind, and let the body take over. A couple months in it just became something else entirely. Sometimes you have to surrender to your internal homing instincts. Just as slowly as I succumbed I can feel the mind shifting back out of the pause. It isn’t a sudden thing. It’s so very slowly growing and unwinding, It feels fresh, alive, and vital. And that is exciting.

More spring time color-bombing from my neighborhood walks.

25 April 2019 – 72

Friends: Vegan French Cook-off – we were back at in the kitchen after our much needed Pizza-week break last week. Nomz.

Aquafaba based chocolate mousse. The chocolate seized on me so it was a little “textury”. But the flavor and consistency of the foamed aquafaba was remarkably mousse-like. Will be trying to perfect this recipe. It’s fast and decadent.
Artichoke and spinach hand pies. They were supposed to be mini-souffles, but I had to make do with phyllo dough “crust”. The flavor of the innards was great, but I think a normal pie crust would be tastier. Will redo this recipe as well. All in all though the food was super tasty!

26 April 2019 – 73

And if we’re able to leave room for the encounters that will change us in ways we can’t yet see, we can also acknowledge that we are each a confluence of forces that exceed our own understanding.

And after 25 days and multiple emails my IG account has been restored. Archived everything and will start over around 1 June, 2019. Not sure what that looks like yet. I still have a month+ to figure it out. I love Jenny Odells ideas about resisting in place. For me it revolves about being mindful and setting intention and thinking about what provides value to the attention we give any one thing.

Performance: Estado Vegetal @ PICA. The acting was off the hook excellent. The story was excellent. I found the staging to be a bit hokey, which disconnected me from the performance a bit. I’m so glad PICA brings these types of performances to PDX though.

28 April 2019 – 75

Movie: Hail Satan? @ Hollywood
I highly recommend this documentary. Leave your preconceptions at the door.

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend.

To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.

Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.

People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word

The Satanic Temple

Friends: Drove up to WA for a first time hike at Falls Creek Falls with friends. Wow. Beautiful hike and falls. Can’t wait to camp up that way later in the summer! We found a great swimming hole primitive campsite not too far from there to beat the summer time heat. It felt so great to be back out on the trails after such a wet start to April. Bring it on May, I am ready!

Falls Creek Falls, WA – spectacular!

29 April 2019 – 76

The irises are popping! The gravel has arrived, and I hauled 1500 lbs to the back today in prep! Let the next phase of backyard fire pit landia wabi-sabi build commence.

30 April 2019 – 77

Thinking about: The Case for Doing Nothing (NY Times). The idea of having a “bored party” is kind of fun sounding. Although boredom has never really been a problem for me – there is always something to do, see, listen, learn, or just sit around and think about, or build!

Firepitlandia is another step closer to reality. Lots of work still left to do though!

1 May 2019 – 78

It’s the final push to June – the “half-way” point. The end of the 100 day experiment. A turning point that is entirely illusory, nonexistent, and mythical, and yet somehow meaningful, if only to me.

Movie: Big Eden @ Hollywood. Really sweet film, but sometimes epic levels of bad acting.

2 May 2019 – 79

In this age of communication, through books, reproductions, exhibits [, social media] brought from all over the world, who can be free from influence, — preconception? But — it all depends upon what one does with this cross-fertilization: — is it digested, or does it bring indigestion?

Edward Weston

Mostly indigestion.

Friends: Vegan breakfast food for dinner cook-off! We feasted hard!

Chickpea scramble with roasted rosemary japanese sweet and red potatoes breakfast tacos, and whole wheat biscuits with mushroom bechamel gravy and lentil gravy. Nom nom nom.

3 May 2019 – 80

The weather has been so damn nice here in PDX. The urge to hit the road for adventures is strong! Soon… soon… soon… Meanwhile the fire pit has been acquired and first burn may be tomorrow night. YAY!
